Schools Eligible: All schools, 16+

Grades Eligible: 10th grade and up, 16+

Wage: $12/hour

Hours/week: Up to 40 hours/week

Schedule: Varies, students must commit to Thursday-Sunday. Preference for students who can work through October

Important Dates:
May 23rd: Application due
May 31st: Interviews at Old Town Trolley, 380 Dorchester Avenue, South Boston, MA 0212. Students can sign up for an interview slot between 2:00 and 7:00.
First Day: tentative, and flexible based on hiring date- looking for students to start ASAP
October 31: Last Day

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Valet

Position Purpose 
  • Communicate the benefits or our product with pride and enthusiasm in keeping to the  company’s mission to be The Nation’s Storyteller ®. 
  • Give accurate information, hand out brochures, and guide customers to OTT-BOS ticket booths and/or trolleys. 
  • Give positive first impressions to customer's. Customer’s first impressions should be that our company has integrity and is safe and fun. Customers judge our company by the way you do your job.
Essential Functions 
  • Approach people on the sidewalk in a courteous manner. 
  • Always be proactive in looking for our next customer, make eye contact and greet your potential customers with a smile and prompt service. Every customer should be paid the ultimate compliment of recognition and attention. 
  • Hand out brochures and direct customers to our ticket booths and/or trolleys as appropriate. 
  • Know our products and pricing. Know the most popular things to do at each trolley stop.
  • Provide local tourist related information with accuracy. 
  • Assist in boarding passengers and see to customer’s satisfaction while boarding to ensure vehicles depart depot on time
  • Serve as a calming influence when overloads or delays occur.
  • Courtesy, friendliness and hospitality should be extended in full measure to every guest.
  • Be an ambassador of goodwill for our city. ñ Answer two way radios in a polite, professional manner. 
  • Communicate with dispatcher the number of guest at the trolley stop, or any dispatch problems. 
  • Inform the Depot Sales Manager of any issues. 
  • Accurately produce reports and other departmental documents. 
  • Keep work area neat, clean and well stocked. 
  • Requires on-your-feet routine physical activity outdoors in all types of temperatures, humidity and weather. 
  • Regular attendance and punctuality in proper attire are required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
  • High degrees of self-motivation and the ability to work independently over long periods of time within the scope of established rules and regulations. 
  • Ability to work with a diverse CAST and the general public equally. 
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking the time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. 
  • Ability to deal with unpleasant, angry, or discourteous people in a pleasant, calm, courteous manner.
  • Ability to read, write and speak clear English in order to communicate with co-workers and the general public.  
  • Ability to learn new duties, policies and procedures and adjust to new situations encountered on the job within a reasonable amount of time. 
  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours a week or longer as deadlines dictate for a full-time valet, part-time valet is to be available as needed. 
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays. 
  • Mental attitude required to handle the stress that goes with this job as described. 
  • Ability to use equipment or materials as specified in this job description. 
  • Should have proven, sustained record of high-quality work. 
  • Must have good grooming and hygiene skills. 
  • Commitment, Attitude, Sincerity and Trust (the characteristics of a CASTmember) are lifelong habits that must be present on a daily basis.

Working Environment 

This job requires working in the field with the general public and company CAST. The outside work environment is subject to a range of temperatures, humidity and weather. The work environment in the field may also involve working around traffic and conditions that may be very loud

Essential Physical Requirements 
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Ability to use hands to handle, control or feel objects. 
  • Ability to bend, squat, and reach as necessary to complete tasks. 
  • Ability to traverse all areas of the company’s operations and public areas throughout the city and trolleys. 
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs. 
  • Ability to lift, lower, and carry packages that typically weigh 25 - 40 lbs. and may weigh up to 50 lbs. varying distances.
