Job Descriptions for Summer PIC Program
Bookstore (4 Positions)
The Boston College Bookstore is seeking customer service oriented individuals to perform cashier and other retail duties such as but not limited to: ringing a register during sales events, greeting and assisting customers, stocking sales floor, receiving incoming shipments and preparing outgoing shipments, filing paperwork and other clerical duties. Two of the positions are located at the McElroy Bookstore and the other two positions are located at the Hillside Shop in Maloney Hall.
Constituent Gifts & Records (1 Position)
The student will be responsible for entering and updating new/existing biographical data of alumni, parents, and friends into the University’s database. Primary tasks include data entry, online research and outbound calling. Individual(s) will be expected to perform online research, using various databases and social networking sites, in order to update contact information. Individual(s) must also be comfortable making phone calls, with a high-level of professionalism, to alumni and friends in order to verify information. Special projects, as assigned.
Human Resources Staff Support (1 Position)
Assist in a variety of office functions to support various areas of the Human Resources Department. Responsibilities include answering the phone, greeting visitors, filing, copying, scanning, computer work (such as data entry), making deliveries within the University and other projects as assigned. Some office experience is helpful. Neat office attire and good telephone etiquette.
Information Technology– Computer Operator Assistant (1 Position)
This position will give you a nice opportunity to be exposed and learn what it takes to run a database center for information technology. Under supervision, you will have the opportunity to learn and assist with the following tasks: Set up, operate and monitor electronic computer to process data according to program instructions, answer requests appearing on computer console; determine causes of error stops and make adjustments in input data or make minor corrections, monitor system by observing computer console, tape units and action of auxiliary equipment; make adjustments when required. Assist with replacing/repairing network cables and maintaining inventory of supplies.
Information Technology – Computer Deployment (Service Building) (1 Position)
You will be part of a team responsible for receiving, configuring and deploying new computers throughout the university: Delivery and setup of new computers, deactivation and removal of old computers as outlined by the BCCR deployment process. Work closely with the Lead, Deployment Technician and BC team.
Information Technology (Core Systems Asst – Academic/Web Assistant 1-Position)
This position will give you exposure to what is done behind the scenes web maintenance and what it takes to do the following: Basic trouble shooting & web development, development of test cases by understanding the functionality of a service, implementation of test cases using manual and automated testing, and documentation the existing services in the middleware group.
Information Technology – Student & Academic Application Services (Newton - 1 Position)
The student will be responsible for general office work ranging from data entry, answering phones, filing, customer service, as well as working on spreadsheets and other special projects.
Learning to Learn (1 Position)
This person welcomes and provides hospitality to all visitors and callers and provides administrative support to the Learning to Learn Department. Students should have good communication, office etiquette and computer skills (in particular data entry and designing flyers). Responsibilities include serving as a receptionist for Learning to Learn and McNair programs, preparing and delivering program mailings within Boston College, making copies, assisting in re-designing program brochures and flyers, assisting in researching and developing a program contact database. Training will be provided on the use of office equipment and also information of the program.
Office of Governmental and Community Affairs (OGCA) – Office Assistant (1 Position)
Provide administrative and clerical support to OGCA which serves as the University’s liaison to federal, state and city government, as well as the local communities of Boston and Newton. Duties include answering the phone, light typing, filing, data entry, campus errands and assisting with special summer programs or projects such as the Flynn Recreation Complex Summer Community Program, Taste of Off-Campus Event and Office Newsletter. Position requires positive attitude, punctuality, strong communication skills and neat appearance and attire.
Procurement, Accounts Payable – Office Assistant (1 Position)
Sort and distribute mail. Answer main phone line; refer to the appropriate person in Accounts Payable. File paperwork for daily check runs. Scan paperwork through copier into PeopleSoft
Thea Bowman AHANA and Intercultural Center – Aide to Admin Assistant (1 Position)
The Aide to the Undergraduate Administrative Assistant will assist in organizing materials for our Options through Education Summer Transitional Program, OTE. Arrange and organize binders and materials for program, answer telephone in a courteous manner, type and file documents, and other duties as assigned such as organizing office materials, etc.
Transportation and Parking Office (1 Position)
Perform general office assistance; such as photocopying, filing, running errands and data entry. We are looking for someone with good communication skills that can provide reception assistance such as answering the telephone to dealing with visitors. The student must be willing to work outdoors assisting with event management and parking garages.
School of Nursing, Dean’s Office – Office Assistant (1 position)
Student employees working as staff assistants to a number of different departments within the Connell School of Nursing will have a number of various responsibilities. These include but are not limited to coverage in the dean’s office, answering the phone and taking messages, P-Card reconciliation, support for simulation in the learning labs, marketing and communications support, filing, copying and scanning as well as task running. Professionalism and confidentiality are required.
